I can't find his service record. A medal card for him gives the following:
9th London Regiment, regimental numbers 4843, 391746.
From the great information you provided, that should mean he signed up between 15th May and 1st June 1915. What would be the best way to try to establish where he fought. I know he was gassed at sometime.
ThanksPhilhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15037329090904731241noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1944079581687608453.post-55666614275246680932009-07-04T13:03:40.528+01:002009-07-04T13:03:40.528+01:00Hello Lars

I would imagine though, that he was transferred almost immediately on arrival overseas the sequence being something like, 20th Loindons - France - Infantry Base Depot - 9th Londons. I wouldn't imagine he would have been overseas very long before he was killed. If I find out any information about numbers in this block, I'll post it here.

Thanks for visiting.Paul Nixonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12354531380984476532noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1944079581687608453.post-77663654677926845442009-07-04T00:14:16.468+01:002009-07-04T00:14:16.468+01:00Hi, I have come across number 7703, Harry Smith, w...Hi, I have come across number 7703, Harry Smith, who is listed as died at Leuze Wood on 9/9/16 with the 9th. If I read your information on service numbers correct, this number could indicate a later enlistment? He was earlier 5040 in the 20th.
Kind regards,
LarsLars Ahlkvisthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02791199951358306339noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1944079581687608453.post-34869894488718898172009-06-23T18:51:03.045+01:002009-06-23T18:51:03.045+01:00Dan, thanks for your message and apologies for the...Dan, thanks for your message and apologies for the delay in responding to your query.

1819 for the 25th Londons dates to around November 1914. 7058 looks to be around October 1916. I'll do some more digging and see if I can find any service records close to your Great Uncle's 9th Londons numbers but from my information, the numbering gets a little more chaotic around this time with, what appears to be, drafts of men from other London Regiment battalions transferring into the 25th. Leave it with me and I'll post additional information if I can turn up something helpful.

Paul NixonPaul Nixonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12354531380984476532noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1944079581687608453.post-18840706388787561302009-06-17T12:09:17.091+01:002009-06-17T12:09:17.091+01:00Thanks for a great service, it has been very helpf...Thanks for a great service, it has been very helpful tracking the dates that my Great Uncle was attested and later transferred.

I have one question.
