MY GGF was 1st Life Guards Albert H.J. Howell Unit 2148. I also found he had regiment number 294007. Not sure what the latter number was.

Re: Cavalry men having 2 numbers. I do not have the number to hand at the moment but my grandfather 2717 Trooper Jeal FW was renumbered in 1918 when the guards cavalry became Machine Gun Corps. On disbandment he returned to 1 L.G. with the old number.
