"I
can't thank you enough for the work you have done for me. The detail you have
uncovered would have taken me ages to discover. Thank you especially for your
explanatory notes which have helped me find out more about Stephen, just one of
many who fought for our country but who was dear to those left behind. What
you found for me is most impressive."

Was wondering if there are any records available for Pte John Holmes 7725 who served with the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers? Very hard to get information as unsure how long he served but know he survived.
Kind regards,
Neil

Hello Paul, I have FINALLY found information on my great grandfather, William Charles Brown of the 2nd Battalion Border Regiment. #8247 rank: PG (private?) who enlisted in Stratford on March 2, 1906. He was from Bethnal Green, London, Middlesex.
I found numerous documents of his medical records, but they’re all handwritten & I can’t make a lot of what they say out. It looks as though he was injured in the head & upper back & hospitalized. It looks as though he was deemed “unfit for war service on July, 31, 1915…but some papers say he was in Mandalay even after 10.13.17?
It indicated he embarked 2-3-06;
Borden Camp: 23.6.06;
(can’t read, but looks like “MS (or MJ) Sauden”:) 31.8.06;
Gibraltar: 5.9.06;
(again cant make out “SS “Harry?” Or “kassy?”: 4.11-08 —y9.10.08;
Landed in India: 30.x.08;
Wellington (UK? Australia?): 4.x1.08 or 9?—29.9.10;
( can’t make out: ”HJMS ? Dusferin?”): 1.10.10—7.10.10;
Rangoon: 8.10.10—W.V.12;
“?Mandalay?”: 10.3.17—N.12.12;
(can’t make out “Plassy? Or “Plaess of”): 9.1.13
On another document:
Home: 2.3.06—30.8.06 (182 days);
Gibraltar: 31.8.06—22.10.08 (2 yrs 53 days);
E. Indies: 23.10.08—30.1.13 (4 yrs 100 days)
(?”Mortel?”): 31.1.13—14.10.14 (1 yr 247 days);
France/Eastern Front: 5.10.16—24.11.14 (Check mark years, 51 days);
Home: 25.11.14—31.7.15 (249 days)
=9 yrs, 152 days service)
Campaigns: France 1914
Wounded: wound head & Back reported 1 11/14 by 14 Gen. Hoop CW
BECAME NON-EFFECTIVE BY: discharge no longer fit for sslervice on: July 31, 1915.
I’m just curious about his service…I don’t know anything about the 2nd Bataillon of the Border Regiment & what they did since it wasn’t WWI yet.
Where & how was he injured? I have some medical documents, but they’re all chicken scratch handwriting & am curious what happened to him?
Also, was any of his family also in the war? His father Charles (Henry William) Brown (#1 Preston St, Bethnal Green)? his elder brother Thomas? (It says ask for parents), Or elder brother William (it says: 6353 South Wales—is that an address or military #?)?
Thank you for your help!

Hello Paul. I am interested in learning about my Great Great Grandfather David Robert Evans of 2nd Dragoon Guards Queens Bays. I have his medal card (ref: WO 372/6/232923) with Sargeant 2DG/5310, Regimental Sargeant Major D/19736 and Warrant Officer Class 1. I estimate his joining the Bays in 1900/1901 from his number. I am keen to understand family legends. I am told he served in Burma at some point and took his wife and young daughters with him. I cannot find record of the Queens Bays in this area but I am not au fait with the time period nor campaign's. I am told I have a wedding ring fashioned in Indian gold for his wife Bertha her original ring would not fit as her fingers had swollen in the high temperatures and I am told of a sandstorm where a camel was the barricade for the family! I heard about servants and my Grandmother would use the term little 'digdag' to describe my then toddler children when they were mischievous. Is this a now racist term or a random, meaningless word I should not use? I have so many questions that surround his service, I apologise. I have no family of that era left to question sadly but if I could find reference to his service in Burma perhaps I could research these handed down memories somewhat and so I'd be most grateful for any tips you may have.
Many thanks,
Heather Drummond

Hi Paul,
My great grand uncle Edward Morrissey served in the 1st bn Royal Munster Fusiliers in India 1908 but was captured on 1914 in 2nd bn at Étreux during the battalions rear guard affair. I think most likely that he was transfered to the 2nd so they could have more soldiers as they were stationed in Aldershot, the 1st were in India at the time. I think his service records were destroyed by the blitz and I would love to see the list of pows with full info as it appears on your list if royal munster fusiliers.
Rgds,
Cathal

They were all from Faversham, Kent. All 3 of them unfortunately didn’t return from France/Belgium. Over 1916-1917 was their deaths, I really want to learn so much more. I have their service numbers. Many Thanks
